Mark E. Furlan

Education

Attorney Mark Furlan graduated from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1987 with a BA in philosophy. He graduated from Vermont Law School in 1992 with a Juris Doctor degree and Master in Environmental Law, Cum Laude.

History

Attorney Furlan began his legal career in Randolph, Vermont in 1993, and quickly focused his practice on criminal law. He operated that practice until October, 2001, when he moved to Rutland, VT and assumed the position of managing partner at Abatiell Associates, P.C. Abatiell Associates, P.C. became Furlan & Associates, PLLC. in January, 2014.

Practice

In addition to representing criminal defendants in Vermont State and Federal District Court, Attorney Furlan also represents incarcerated individuals with claims for Post-Conviction Relief and Habeas Corpus. Attorney Furlan has experience representing parties to a wide variety of civil litigation, with a special focus on representing plaintiffs in civil rights lawsuits against state and local law enforcement and correctional personnel and agencies.

Experience

Attorney Furlan also has substantial experience handling all aspects of domestic disputes in Vermont’s Family Courts. He has significant trial experience, having taken dozens of cases through trial to jury verdict. He has also represented parties in several dozen court trials. Attorney Furlan is also an experienced Appellate Advocate. He has appeared before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York City and many times before the Vermont Supreme Court.

Personal

Attorney Furlan is the father of two boys. He avidly enjoys many outdoor recreational activities.
